SADC-ICP Dialogue Platform Advances Regional Integration and Sustainable Development

The SADC-International Cooperating Partners (ICP) Dialogue Platform is currently underway in a virtual format, bringing together SADC member states and their international partners. The forum aims to reaffirm shared commitments to regional integration, sustainable development, and enhanced cooperation across Southern Africa.

The Dialogue Platform serves as a critical mechanism for strengthening development cooperation and fostering mutual understanding. It ensures that international support aligns with regional priorities and contributes effectively to improving the lives of communities across the SADC region.

Key objectives of the Platform include:

  • Strengthening cooperation between SADC and International Cooperating Partners on regional development and integration priorities.
  • Reviewing progress on jointly agreed programmes, projects, and initiatives.
  • Addressing emerging regional issues, including climate change, trade, infrastructure, health, peace and security, and economic development.
  • Aligning international support with SADC strategic frameworks, particularly the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) and SADC Vision 2050.

By providing a structured forum for dialogue, the Platform promotes coherence, effectiveness, and measurable impact in regional development efforts.

The opening session featured remarks from key leaders. SADC Executive Secretary, His Excellency Mr. Elias Magosi, highlighted the importance of coordinated action in achieving regional development goals. Her Excellency Ms. Petra Pereyra, Head of the European Union Delegation to Botswana and SADC and Chairperson of the ICP, emphasized the EU’s commitment to supporting SADC’s integration agenda. Ambassador Tebogo Seokolo, Deputy Director-General: Africa at DIRCO and Interim Chairperson of the SADC Standing Committee of Senior Officials, reaffirmed the value of sustained international partnerships in addressing regional challenges.

Their statements set a constructive tone for the day’s discussions, emphasizing the shared vision of deepening regional cooperation and ensuring that international support remains responsive to SADC’s priorities.

SADC has expressed appreciation to all participating Member States, development partners, and stakeholders for their collaboration. Through coordinated action and shared purpose, the Dialogue Platform seeks to strengthen regional integration, promote sustainable development, and build a more prosperous and resilient Southern Africa.
