Lesotho’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Engages Basotho in Botswana on Diaspora Welfare and Investment

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Hon. Lejone Mpotjoana, recently engaged with Basotho living in the Republic of Botswana to discuss consular matters and citizen welfare. The engagement focused on addressing key concerns of the diaspora and strengthening ties between Lesotho and its citizens abroad.

Hon. Mpotjoana reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting Basotho living outside the country. He emphasized that the Ministry is ready and willing to provide efficient and professional consular services, ensuring that citizens’ needs are met promptly. The Minister encouraged the diaspora to remain actively involved in Lesotho’s development by remitting funds through formal channels and investing in sustainable projects back home.

During the engagement, the Minister highlighted the critical role of the diaspora as a driver of national growth. He noted that their participation is central to strengthening Lesotho’s economy and that contributions from Basotho abroad can significantly impact local development initiatives.

In addition, Hon. Mpotjoana announced plans for a Diaspora Investment Forum scheduled for March 2026. The forum will provide a platform for Basotho abroad to explore investment opportunities, connect with government programmes, and engage with private-sector partners. It aims to create pathways for meaningful participation in Lesotho’s economic growth.

The Ministry continues to recognise and value the contributions of Basotho living in Botswana. Through engagements like this, it seeks to build strong, lasting connections with its global citizens, ensuring that the diaspora remains an integral part of Lesotho’s development agenda.

This engagement underscores Lesotho’s commitment to supporting its citizens abroad while promoting investments that drive sustainable national progress.
