Ministry of Agriculture Hosts Agricultural Exhibition in Botha-Buthe

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition held an agricultural exhibition today, 24 September 2025, at the Matsoaing Agricultural Centre in Likila, Botha-Buthe district. The event aimed to bring farmers together to share experiences, assess progress, and identify needs for a successful farming season.

Mrs. Mamonica Molomo, Director of the Centre, said the exhibition was designed to help farmers get to know one another, evaluate their production, and plan for future improvements. She encouraged farmers to actively engage with the Centre’s services and resources without hesitation.

Mrs. Maletsela Muruo, a member of the Kushete nutrition group, highlighted the importance of sharing agricultural knowledge beyond specific groups. She emphasized that the goal of the initiative is to provide adequate food and nutrition, reduce poverty, and improve family health, noting that proper nutrition can lead to a decrease in disease. She also encouraged youth to pursue agricultural work as a source of income, given the lack of employment opportunities elsewhere.

Mr. Kabelo Lenkoe, District Administrator of Botha-Buthe, acknowledged the contributions of supervisors assigned to assist farmers. He noted that children in the communities possess agricultural skills that, if utilized, can improve overall production. Lenkoe praised farmers for their hard work despite limited supervisory support, stating that the exhibition demonstrated the effectiveness of village-level supervision.

The event also welcomed teachers and schoolchildren. The Ministry plans to extend its outreach to schools to educate students on food production, aiming to promote proper nutrition and strengthen the community’s knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices.

The exhibition reinforced the Ministry’s commitment to supporting farmers, improving food security, and fostering a culture of agricultural innovation in Botha-Buthe.
