The 1st African Schools Regional Broadcasting Summit officially opened in Maseru on 17 September 2025 and will run until 19 September. The event was officiated by Chief Education-Secondary, Dr Jone Marole, representing the Minister of Education and Training.

The summit brings together educators, students, and media professionals from across the continent to discuss the role of broadcasting in schools. Its goal is to explore how media can enhance learning, promote educational content, and provide a platform for student expression.

Participants will engage in workshops, panel discussions, and practical sessions on topics including radio and television production, digital media skills, and educational broadcasting strategies. The summit also aims to foster collaboration between schools, media houses, and educational authorities.

Dr Marole highlighted the importance of media literacy for students, stating that understanding and using media effectively is critical in today’s digital world. He encouraged schools to integrate broadcasting initiatives into their curricula to develop communication skills, creativity, and critical thinking among learners.

The summit is expected to create long-term partnerships and inspire student-led broadcasting projects across the region. It marks a significant step in promoting innovative learning methods and preparing students for opportunities in media and communication industries.

By the conclusion of the event on 19 September, organizers aim to have established a framework for regional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the integration of broadcasting into educational development across Africa.
