The Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of Lesotho, H.E. Mr. Mubarak Bin Nasser Mubarak Al-Khalifa, officially presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Letsie III at the Royal Palace on Thursday, 21 August 2025. He succeeds H.E. Mr. Tariq Bin Ali Faraj Al-Ansari, continuing a strong diplomatic relationship that began in February 2001.

Key milestones in the partnership include King Letsie III’s visit to Doha in 2010, during which both nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Cooperation. In 2019, the Air Services Agreement was signed to enhance connectivity and promote trade and tourism between the two countries.

Lesotho expressed gratitude for Qatar’s role in supporting regional peace efforts, including facilitating the signing of the peace agreement between the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The country acknowledged Qatar’s ongoing commitment to international cooperation and diplomacy.

Qatar’s expertise in aviation, tourism, infrastructure, renewable energy, education, and technology presents opportunities for Lesotho to strengthen partnerships in these sectors. The appointment of Ambassador Mubarak Bin Nasser Mubarak Al-Khalifa signals a renewed focus on collaboration that can contribute to Lesotho’s national development and regional integration.

The diplomatic engagement reinforces Lesotho’s strategy to leverage international partnerships for sustainable growth while deepening bilateral relations with Qatar across multiple areas of mutual interest.
