King Letsie III Launches 4th Cohort of Moshoeshoe I Scholarship Recipients

His Majesty King Letsie III delivered a keynote address today at the launch and presentation of the fourth cohort of recipients of the Moshoeshoe I Scholarship. The programme is a collaboration between Econet Lesotho and the Higherlife Foundation of Zimbabwe.

Since its inception in 2022, Econet Lesotho has disbursed M2.1 million in stipends and tuition fees to scholarship recipients. The company has announced plans to release an additional M8.1 million for the upcoming intake.

In his speech, King Letsie III expressed deep appreciation to Econet Lesotho for its continued support. He encouraged the new recipients to remain humble, work diligently, and honor the legacy of King Moshoeshoe I, who devoted his life to serving his people.

The Minister of Education, Prof. Ntoi Rapapa, commended Econet Lesotho for its consistent commitment to education. He cited a recent intervention where the company provided M1.2 million to assist 439 stranded students facing funding challenges.

Recipients of the scholarship, including Mapeete Moshoeshoe and Bokang Masenyetse from Mafeteng, shared their gratitude, describing the scholarship as a life-changing opportunity.

Econet Lesotho CEO, Mr. Dennis Plaatjies, reaffirmed the company’s pledge to support vulnerable and disadvantaged children. He emphasized that the programme aims to enable students to pursue their studies and make positive contributions to Lesotho’s future.

The launch highlights the ongoing partnership between the private sector and educational initiatives, creating opportunities that advance learning and empowerment for young Basotho.
