LNIG Hollard Promotes Safer Roads Through Defensive Driving Training for Government Drivers

In today’s fast-paced and often unpredictable traffic conditions, defensive driving has become more than just a recommended skill—it’s now a necessity for all road users. This was the key message from Mr. Mpho Vumbukani, Managing Director of LNIG Hollard, during a recent certificate handover ceremony for 150 government drivers who successfully completed a defensive driving course.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Vumbukani highlighted that one of the main benefits of defensive driving is improved road safety. He explained that drivers who apply defensive driving techniques are more aware of their surroundings, maintain a safe following distance, and respond calmly to sudden traffic changes. This, he said, helps prevent accidents and ensures safer roads for all users.

Mr. Vumbukani emphasized that the defensive driving course is not only about avoiding collisions but also about encouraging responsible and respectful behavior on the road. He pointed out that such training helps drivers avoid legal and financial troubles by teaching them how to react appropriately in unexpected situations.

“By practicing defensive driving, individuals play a crucial role in making the roads safer for everyone,” he said.

One of the drivers who completed the course, Mr. ‘Molotsi Mapetla, expressed his appreciation for the training. He noted that the lessons learned will go a long way in reducing the risk of accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Mr. Mapetla added that as trained defensive drivers, they are now better prepared to expect the unexpected, such as sudden braking by other vehicles, pedestrians crossing illegally, or hazardous weather conditions.

The initiative by LNIG Hollard reflects a broader commitment to improving road safety standards and equipping drivers with essential skills that can save lives. As more drivers embrace defensive driving, the hope is that road accidents and their devastating consequences will significantly decline across the country.
