A5 Road Reconstruction from St. Michael’s to Roma Progressing On Schedule

The Roads Directorate has confirmed that the reconstruction of the A5 road between St. Michael’s and Roma is advancing as planned. Director of Road Network Development, Mr. Linehella Nts’ere, reported that foundational work—which began in January—is nearing completion, with nine of the ten targeted points already covered.

Mr. Nts’ere stated that the foundation is expected to be finalized by August, after which the team will proceed with layer works. The road will be tarred in October, maintaining the project’s schedule for completion by April 2026.

“This project is still on time,” Mr. Nts’ere assured. He also noted that significant structural progress has been made, with five out of twelve planned culverts already installed.

The reconstruction, which spans a 6km stretch of the A5 and an additional 2km road leading to St. Joseph’s Hospital, is being handled by China Geo Engineering Corporation. The consulting teams involved are Mafube Consultancy and SM Engineering Consultancy.

With a total estimated cost of M140 million, the project involves full rehabilitation to improve safety, durability, and connectivity for road users in the region. Mr. Nts’ere urged the local community and motorists to remain patient and alert during the ongoing works.

“We ask everyone to be cautious of the heavy machinery and to observe all road signs for their safety and that of the workers,” he added.

The upgraded A5 road is expected to significantly enhance access between key areas, providing long-term benefits for both residents and visitors to the region.
