Seven young people from Lesotho have been selected to participate in an upcoming Artificial Intelligence (AI) summit scheduled to take place in Geneva next month, according to the Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation (MICSTI), Nthati Moorosi.
Minister Moorosi made the announcement during a youth engagement meeting hosted by Prime Minister Ntsokoane Matekane on Wednesday. The gathering aimed to strengthen dialogue between government leaders and young citizens, particularly around issues of innovation, technology, and future career opportunities.
The minister emphasised that Lesotho’s participation in the AI summit is a milestone for the country’s youth, as it opens the door to global exposure in one of the fastest-growing technology fields. She said the decision to send young representatives is a strategic effort by the Ministry to showcase the untapped potential of Basotho youth in the AI sector and to create platforms that enable them to thrive in the digital age.
The summit in Geneva is expected to bring together global leaders, innovators, and young tech minds to discuss the future of artificial intelligence and its impact across various industries. Lesotho’s delegation will have the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge technologies, network with international stakeholders, and explore future collaboration and education prospects.
Minister Moorosi reassured the youth of continued support from her Ministry and encouraged them to remain alert for more opportunities in the science and technology space. She noted that this is just the beginning of broader initiatives that aim to position Lesotho as a serious player in the digital transformation journey.
