RFP and ANC Strengthen Bilateral Ties Ahead of 2025 Liberation Movement Summit

The ruling Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) party of Lesotho and South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC) have affirmed their commitment to a relationship built on mutual trust, regional cooperation, and shared development. This declaration was made during a high-level bilateral meeting between the two liberation-rooted parties, aimed at deepening political solidarity and paving the way for stronger cross-border collaboration.
The RFP delegation was led by the party’s Secretary General, Ms. Nthati Moorosi, while the ANC was represented by its First Deputy Secretary-General, Nomvula Mokonyane. The engagement was described as a strategic initiative that not only focused on strengthening party-to-party relations, but also addressed broader aspirations for peace, unity, and socio-economic progress across the Southern African region.
Party officials stated that such meetings are essential in ensuring that historical ties between liberation movements evolve into modern-day cooperation frameworks that respond to the pressing needs of citizens.
The timing of the meeting is especially significant as it comes in the lead-up to the ANC’s 2025 Liberation Movement Summit, scheduled to be held in Johannesburg. This major summit will bring together ruling liberation parties from across Southern Africa, providing a platform to reflect on their shared heritage, defend the gains of liberation, and promote development-focused governance.
The summit will be held under the theme: “Defending Liberation Gains, Advancing Socio-Economic Development, Strengthening Solidarity for a Better Africa.” Discussions are expected to centre around Africa’s socio-economic challenges, the importance of unity, and practical strategies to empower communities and promote equality.
RFP and ANC both lead democratic governments in Lesotho and South Africa respectively. Despite their different national contexts, both parties are aligned in their pursuit of democratic values and inclusive governance. Their continued cooperation underscores a shared vision for an integrated Southern Africa, grounded in mutual respect, people-centred development, and the collective memory of past struggles.
As the 2025 summit draws nearer, engagements such as this one between the RFP and ANC are likely to shape a new era of inter-party collaboration—one that not only honours liberation legacies but also delivers tangible results for the people of the region.
