Prime Minister Inaugurates Lesotho PostBank Branch in Mokhotlong and Donates Wheelchairs to Residents with Disabilities

MOKHOTLONG – In a move aimed at expanding financial access and promoting social inclusion, the Prime Minister of Lesotho officially opened a new Lesotho PostBank branch in Mokhotlong this week. The launch marks a significant milestone in efforts to bring essential banking services closer to underserved and remote communities.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of financial inclusion in fostering national development and empowering rural populations. “The opening of this branch is a clear demonstration of our commitment to bridging the financial divide between urban and rural areas,” he said. “It is our belief that every Mosotho should have access to modern banking services, regardless of where they live.”

Lesotho PostBank’s expansion into Mokhotlong is part of a broader strategy to promote financial literacy, support local entrepreneurship, and encourage a culture of savings among Basotho. The new branch is expected to make banking more convenient for individuals, small businesses, farmers, and pensioners who previously had to travel long distances to access financial services.

In addition to launching the bank branch, the Prime Minister took time to highlight the government’s dedication to supporting people living with disabilities. As part of the event, he donated wheelchairs to several residents with mobility challenges, a gesture that was warmly welcomed by the community.

“This donation is a symbol of our commitment to inclusivity and dignity for all citizens,” the Prime Minister said. “We want to ensure that people living with disabilities are not left behind in our journey toward a more just and equitable society.”

The beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that the wheelchairs would greatly improve their quality of life and ease of movement.

Local leaders, members of the business community, and officials from Lesotho PostBank attended the event, showing their support for the initiative and the Prime Minister’s efforts to uplift marginalized communities.

As the new PostBank branch begins operations in Mokhotlong, residents can look forward to enhanced access to financial products and services — a key step toward economic empowerment and regional development.
