Likuena Secure First Victory at COSAFA 2025 with 1-0 Triumph Over Malawi

Lesotho’s national football team, Likuena, kicked off their COSAFA 2025 campaign in style with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Malawi. The match, which took place earlier this week, marked the team’s first win of the tournament and a promising start under the leadership of head coach Leslie Notši.
Likuena’s lone goal was enough to secure all three points against a determined Malawian side in what proved to be a tightly contested encounter. The team showcased both resilience and tactical discipline, demonstrating their intent to compete strongly in this year’s regional tournament.
Speaking after the match, Coach Notši acknowledged the intensity of the game and praised his players for their perseverance. “It was a tough encounter against Malawi, but we managed to win,” he said. “We tried to create a lot of goal-scoring opportunities and played a physically demanding game, which helped us absorb the pressure coming our way.”
According to Notši, the team made critical tactical adjustments in the second half that contributed to their success. “We introduced two or three players to bring in some creativity and change the manner in which we were playing — and it worked out,” he explained.
He added that during the half-time break, the coaching staff focused on encouraging the players to remain composed in the attacking third. “We reminded the boys to stay calm when they are in the opponent’s box and not rush their decisions.”
The win sets a positive tone for Likuena as they look ahead to their next fixture against Angola on Sunday. With momentum on their side and confidence growing within the squad, the team will be hoping to build on their early success and continue their winning streak in the group stage.
As excitement builds among Lesotho football fans, Likuena’s promising start at COSAFA 2025 has reignited hopes of a strong tournament performance — one that could potentially see the team make a deep run in the competition.
