Tourism in Focus: Acting CEO Mamello Morojelo Highlights Lesotho’s Global Promotion Strategy

Lesotho is placing tourism at the heart of its national development strategy, and this vision was echoed by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC), Ms. Mamello Morojelo, during a recent high-level diplomatic consultation.
Ms. Morojelo shared her expert insights into the current tourism environment in Lesotho, focusing on the vast opportunities for tourism investment and international promotion. Her remarks sparked a forward-looking discussion on how the country can better position itself as a competitive and appealing destination for global travelers and investors.
A key point of her presentation was the urgent need to scale up efforts in promoting Lesotho’s tourism potential through targeted international engagement. This includes active participation in outdoor tourism events, global roadshows, and tourism fairs where Lesotho can showcase its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and adventure tourism offerings to diverse international markets.
“Tourism is not only about leisure—it’s a powerful driver of economic growth, job creation, and international recognition,” said Ms. Morojelo. “We must continue to raise awareness of Brand Lesotho by being present where global travel and investment decisions are made.”
She also emphasized the importance of building stronger collaboration between Lesotho’s diplomatic missions and the tourism sector. By equipping embassies and consulates with up-to-date promotional materials and strategic messaging, Lesotho aims to integrate tourism promotion into its broader diplomatic and trade efforts.
Ms. Morojelo highlighted that international tourism forums are essential platforms to network with travel agents, investors, and media partners. These engagements can directly lead to partnerships that open new travel routes, increase tourist inflows, and encourage infrastructure development.
As Lesotho deepens its commitment to economic diplomacy, tourism is emerging as one of the key sectors capable of transforming the nation’s economic landscape. The LTDC, under Ms. Morojelo’s leadership, is working closely with stakeholders such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CAFI, and GDP Global to ensure tourism becomes a pillar of sustainable economic growth.
Her remarks reaffirmed that Lesotho’s tourism sector is not only ready for investment—it is strategically aligning itself with global trends to attract attention, funding, and footfall from across the world.
