Princess Senate and Princess Maseeiso Visit Likila High School for Traditional Games Tour

Butha-Buthe, Lesotho — In a heartwarming celebration of Basotho heritage, Her Royal Highness Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso, accompanied by her younger sister Her Royal Highness Princess Maseeiso Mohato Seeiso, visited Likila High School today as part of the Traditional Games Tour. The event, held in Butha-Buthe, drew widespread excitement as students, teachers, and local dignitaries gathered to welcome the royal sisters.

The Traditional Games Tour is a central feature of the upcoming Selialia Project, a cultural revival initiative designed to reconnect Basotho youth with their rich ancestral traditions. At the heart of today’s festivities was the traditional game Selialia, which was brought to life on the school grounds through vibrant participation and enthusiastic cheer. Other indigenous games also featured, offering students a chance to learn, play, and take pride in the customs of their forebears.

The royal visit carried deep cultural and symbolic meaning. Princess Senate and Princess Maseeiso, both dressed in elegant attire that celebrated Basotho identity, interacted warmly with students, joining in the games and speaking about the importance of cultural pride. Their shared passion and close sisterly bond resonated deeply with attendees, positioning them as inspiring role models for the young generation.

“This tour is more than just about games. It is about our identity as Basotho and honoring the wisdom of our ancestors,” said Princess Senate in her remarks to the students. She encouraged them to embrace their cultural roots and to carry forward the values of unity, dignity, and respect — virtues championed by the revered founder of the Basotho nation, King Moshoeshoe I.

The presence of both princesses brought a renewed sense of pride and celebration to the school community. Their leadership and commitment to preserving Basotho traditions sent a powerful message to youth across Lesotho: that culture is not just history, but a living treasure to be celebrated and passed on.

As the Traditional Games Tour continues to make its way to schools across the country, today’s visit to Likila High School will be remembered as a day of joy, cultural awakening, and royal encouragement — a fitting tribute to the enduring spirit of Lesotho.
