LeFA President Advocate Salemane Phafane Elected to FIFA Governance, Audit, and Compliance Committee

The President of the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA), Advocate Salemane Phafane (KC), has been elected to serve in the FIFA Governance, Audit, and Compliance Committee following a successful vote at the 75th FIFA Congress held in Asuncion, Paraguay. His term will run from May 2025 to May 2029, marking a new chapter in his longstanding service to football governance both locally and internationally.
According to LeFA’s Media and Communication Manager, Mikia Kalati, Advocate Phafane received overwhelming support during the vote, securing 186 votes from world football leaders, with only two countries opposing his nomination. This strong mandate reflects the global football community’s confidence in his leadership, integrity, and dedication to the sport.
Advocate Phafane’s latest appointment comes shortly after completing a four-year term in the FIFA Disciplinary Committees, where he was recognized for his firm but fair approach to maintaining the sport’s integrity. His new role in the Governance, Audit, and Compliance Committee will involve overseeing key aspects of FIFA’s transparency and accountability, including financial compliance and ethical standards.
Kalati highlighted that this achievement is not just a personal milestone for Advocate Phafane, but also a proud moment for Lesotho and African football as a whole. “Advocate Phafane has consistently impressed international leaders with his professionalism and commitment. His contributions to COSAFA, CAF, and FIFA have always been met with respect and admiration,” he said.
Phafane’s influence spans several decades, during which he has held significant roles across the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA). His experience in both legal and football administration circles positions him as a key figure in driving governance reforms and ensuring ethical conduct within global football structures.
The Lesotho Football Association has celebrated this moment as a testament to the nation’s growing footprint in the global sports arena. As FIFA continues to strengthen its governance systems, Advocate Phafane’s presence on the committee is expected to contribute significantly to its mission of promoting fairness, transparency, and development in football worldwide.
