Government Secretary Mrs. Teboho ‘Mokela Refutes Rumours About Tourism Principal Secretary’s Firing

The Government Secretary, Mrs. Teboho ‘Mokela, has dismissed circulating rumours on social media claiming that the Tourism Principal Secretary, Mr. Pokello Mahlomola, has been fired. Speaking to the press, Mrs. Mokela clarified that the reports are inaccurate and misleading.

She explained that Mr. Mahlomola’s contract, which was originally set to expire in January next year, was terminated earlier than planned. However, this does not amount to a firing in the conventional sense. According to Mrs. Mokela, the contract included a clause allowing either party to terminate the agreement if necessary, and the decision to end the contract early was made by the Prime Minister under this provision.

Mrs. Mokela further noted that no specific reasons were publicly cited for the termination of the contract. She emphasized that the process was handled according to the terms agreed upon in the contract, ensuring transparency and adherence to official protocols.

The clarification from Mrs. Mokela comes amid growing speculation and misinformation on various social media platforms, which had sparked concern among stakeholders in the tourism sector. Her statement aims to set the record straight and reassure the public that the government’s decisions are made within the framework of existing agreements and legal guidelines.

Mr. Mahlomola has been a key figure in Lesotho’s tourism development efforts, and the government remains committed to supporting the sector despite changes in leadership positions. Mrs. Mokela’s confirmation seeks to dispel rumours and maintain confidence in the government’s management of its officials and ongoing projects.

As discussions continue, the government has yet to announce any plans regarding the appointment of a successor or the future leadership of the Ministry of Tourism. For now, Mrs. Mokela urges the public and media to rely on official communications to avoid the spread of unfounded claims.
