Fuel Prices Drop Across Lesotho as Petroleum Fund Announces New Rates

Motorists and households in Lesotho are set to benefit from a decrease in fuel prices, as announced by the Petroleum Fund Secretariat. The revised pump prices take effect immediately, following a press release issued yesterday by the Fund’s interim Chief Executive Officer, Advocate ‘Makananelo Kome.
According to the announcement, petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin have all seen reductions. The price of Petrol 93 has decreased by M0.20 per litre, bringing the new price to M19.15 per litre. Petrol 95 has also dropped by M0.20, now retailing at M19.30 per litre. Diesel 50 saw the biggest cut, decreasing by M0.45 to M19.85 per litre, while Illuminating Paraffin is now priced at M13.80 per litre after a M0.20 reduction.
These adjustments apply to all districts in Lesotho and are part of the Petroleum Fund’s regular pricing reviews that respond to fluctuations in global oil prices, exchange rates, and other economic factors.
Advocate Kome emphasized the importance of compliance among fuel retailers, warning that any business found selling fuel above the new official rates will face enforcement measures. “Retailers must strictly adhere to the new prices, and we urge the public to be vigilant and report any overcharging,” she said.
To facilitate public oversight, the Petroleum Fund has provided a toll-free number, 80022004, where citizens can report non-compliance or pricing anomalies.
This price reduction comes as welcome news for consumers amid rising living costs, and is expected to ease pressure on household budgets, public transportation, and goods distribution across the country.
The Petroleum Fund reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparency in fuel pricing and protecting consumer rights, while ensuring a stable fuel supply throughout Lesotho.
