Lesotho’s Permanent Representative to the African Union Pays Courtesy Call on Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission

The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Lesotho to the African Union Commission (AUC), Ms. Nts’iuoa Sekete, recently paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Selma Malika Haddadi, the newly appointed Deputy Chairperson (DCP) of the African Union Commission. The meeting comes after Ambassador Haddadi’s assumption of duty following the February 2025 AU Summit and the Commission elections.

During the meeting, Ambassador Sekete and the Deputy Chairperson engaged in a productive discussion focused on strengthening the collaboration between Lesotho and the African Union. They explored opportunities to further support the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which seeks to drive Africa’s sustainable development, economic growth, and resilience.

Ambassador Sekete took the opportunity to offer her delegation’s full support to Ambassador Haddadi as she embarks on her leadership journey at the helm of the African Union Commission. Emphasizing Lesotho’s commitment to the goals of Agenda 2063, Sekete reassured the DCP that the Kingdom of Lesotho remains dedicated to contributing meaningfully to the continent’s collective efforts towards achieving a prosperous and resilient Africa.

Ambassador Haddadi, in turn, expressed her gratitude for the support and expressed her determination to work closely with all AU member states, including Lesotho, to deliver on the ambitious agenda for the continent. The discussion underscored the importance of collaboration, unity, and shared responsibility in realizing the vision of a united, prosperous, and self-reliant Africa.

The meeting between Ambassador Sekete and Ambassador Haddadi marks a significant moment in reinforcing Lesotho’s relationship with the African Union Commission and ensuring that the Kingdom continues to play an active role in the pursuit of continental development. The diplomatic engagement is expected to pave the way for further cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including peace and security, economic integration, and sustainable development across the African continent.
