Government Launches M27 Million Rural Electrification Project in Khokhoba

In a significant step toward achieving affordable and clean energy for all, Minister of Energy, Mr. Mohlomi Moleko, launched the Khokhoba rural electrification project on Monday. The initiative, set in Mosalemane constituency, will benefit at least 11 villages.

The project, valued at M27 million, is expected to run for 18 months, from April 2024 to October 2, 2026. A Chinese company, Jiang Su, has been contracted to undertake the electrification work, which aims to bring much-needed power to rural communities.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Moleko emphasized the government’s dedication to expanding electricity access across the country. He highlighted the importance of providing energy to households and businesses, saying that this effort is key to improving people’s quality of life.

The rural electrification project aligns with national development goals to enhance infrastructure and promote economic growth through reliable energy supply. Residents of the targeted villages are optimistic that the project will bring new opportunities for development, including improved healthcare, education, and business activities.

With the government’s continued investment in electrification, rural communities stand to benefit significantly, bridging the gap between urban and rural energy access.
