ECCD Teachers Donate Hygiene Packages to Women Inmates in Berea

Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) teachers from various parts of Berea visited Teyateyaneng Correctional Institute (TCI) on Thursday to donate hygiene packages to women inmates.

The teachers marked the annual ECCD Day with a march from Taoana Square Park to Teyateyaneng Correctional Institute, aligning with this year’s theme: “By listening to children, we can fulfil their rights to self-expression.”

Speaking at the event, the Department of Education and Training’s National Teacher Trainer, Mrs. Blossom Maja, emphasized that this year’s celebration was dedicated to supporting women inmates and raising awareness about children’s rights, especially the right to education.

Mrs. Maja further noted that while the inmates are serving their sentences, their children still need them, and they should not feel forgotten. She stressed that the theme encourages children to express themselves, reinforcing their fundamental rights.

The initiative aimed to not only provide essential hygiene products but also offer moral support to the inmates, reminding them of their role as mothers despite their circumstances.
