Disaster Management Authority Distributes Rice and Sorghum to Vulnerable Households in Maseru

In a critical step towards addressing food insecurity, the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) on Wednesday provided essential food aid to vulnerable households in the Maseru City Council (MCC) ward. The support, which comes at a time when many families continue to face economic hardship, saw the distribution of rice and sorghum to households most in need.
Speaking to the Agency, Maseru District Administrator (DA), Mr. Ts’epo Lethobane, confirmed that the initiative targets the most vulnerable members of the community. “In a significant step towards addressing national food insecurity, the DMA has donated food parcels to vulnerable families from the Maseru City Council ward,” he stated.
The food parcels include 12.5 kilograms of rice and 12.5 kilograms of sorghum per household — staples that are expected to support household food security in the short term. According to Mr. Lethobane, each ward will have 400 beneficiaries, marking a considerable outreach effort by the government to cushion citizens during tough times.
The intervention reflects the government’s continued commitment to social protection and humanitarian support, especially for those living in poverty or affected by emergencies. The distribution also reinforces DMA’s role in ensuring that the most disadvantaged are not left behind during national recovery and resilience-building efforts.
