American Embassy in Lesotho Assures Continued Operations Amid Closure Allegations

The American Embassy in Lesotho has issued a statement confirming that its operations are continuing as usual, despite recent reports suggesting that it may be among the 10 diplomatic missions facing potential closure. These allegations stem from executive decisions made by US President Donald Trump, who is reportedly considering measures to reduce the country’s foreign operations.

In an official comment, the Embassy reassured the public, stating: “No embassy or consulate closures have been announced, and operations continue as normal.”

The concerns arose after reports surfaced indicating that the US Under Secretary for Management is involved in plans to cut the US government’s foreign operations budget by 50 percent. The countries believed to be at risk of having their US diplomatic missions affected include Lesotho, Eritrea, Grenada, the Central African Republic, Luxembourg, the Republic of Congo, Gambia, South Sudan, Malta, and the Maldives.

While the reports have stirred uncertainty, the American Embassy in Lesotho has made it clear that there has been no official announcement regarding any closure or reduction of its operations in the country.
