The High Court Conducts Inspection in Loco in Case of Police Constable Mokalekale Khetheng’s Murder

The High Court, presiding over a case in which four police officers are charged with the murder of their colleague, Police Constable Mokalekale Khetheng, conducted an inspection in loco on Wednesday at Ha Setho and Lepereng. The visit was part of the court’s efforts to establish crucial facts in the ongoing trial.
At Ha Setho, Detective Inspector Tankiso Lethoko, who is currently testifying as a state witness, led the court to a stream where an unknown body was discovered in 2016. He stated that investigations in 2017 revealed that the body was later identified as that of Khetheng. Lethoko also pointed out that the water in the stream remained in the same condition as it was at the time of the body’s discovery.
From Ha Setho, the court proceeded past Ha Mokhalinyane Police Station, where it was informed that the body was collected by the police. The inspection continued to a mortuary at Ha Majane, where the body was initially taken after being retrieved.
The final stop was at Lepereng Cemetery, where the witness identified a burial site where Khetheng was buried in 2016 along with other unidentified bodies. He further confirmed that the same site was where the body was exhumed in August 2017, following investigations into his disappearance and suspected murder.
The case has drawn significant public interest as it involves law enforcement officers accused of killing their colleague. The ongoing trial seeks to establish the truth behind Khetheng’s death and bring justice to those responsible.
