Lesotho’s ICT Minister Nthati Moorosi Champions AI Policy at Ministerial Roundtable

Lesotho’s Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ms. Nthati Moorosi, delivered a powerful virtual address yesterday at the Ministerial Roundtable on Artificial Intelligence for Africa. The event, held ahead of the highly anticipated World Congress 2025, which begins today and runs until Thursday, March 6, brought together key stakeholders to discuss the role of AI in shaping the continent’s future.
As Chairperson of the African Union’s Special Technical Committee on Communication and Information Communication Technologies (AU STC-CICT), Ms. Moorosi emphasized Lesotho’s commitment to AI advancement. She highlighted the country’s newly developed and validated Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy, underscoring its alignment with the Africa Continental AI Strategy. The policy is designed to integrate AI technologies into various sectors, driving economic and social transformation.
“Today, we stand on the brink of a digital transformation that has the potential to elevate our economies and societies. Lesotho’s AI policy not only positions us at the forefront of this revolution but is also aligned with our commitment to the continental strategy,” she stated.
Ms. Moorosi stressed the importance of collaboration among African nations and global partners to ensure AI initiatives flourish across the continent. By working together, she noted, African countries can leverage AI-driven solutions to enhance productivity, education, healthcare, and governance.
Her address reaffirmed Africa’s growing role in the global AI conversation, with Lesotho taking significant strides in policy formulation and implementation. As discussions at the World Congress 2025 unfold, stakeholders will explore ways to accelerate AI adoption while ensuring ethical and inclusive technological growth for the continent.
