Chief Khoabane Theko Expresses Concern Over Slow Progress in Senate Deliverables

The Principal Chief of Thaba-Bosiu and Senate Chief-whip, Chief Khoabane Theko, has expressed concern over the slow progress in delivering key tasks within the Senate. During a session on Tuesday, Chief Theko raised a Point of Order before President ‘Mamonaheng Mokitimi, emphasizing the urgency for relevant stakeholders, including the Chair of Chairs and the business committee, to collaborate and find effective solutions to improve productivity within the House.

Chief Theko highlighted that the current pace of legislative work is hindering progress and urged that a strategic plan be put in place to address this issue. “If one is not a member of any committee, it means they would be coming just to pray while committees sit in thereafter,” he pointed out, stressing the need for more efficient scheduling and coordination to ensure that legislative processes move forward without unnecessary delays.

His comments underscore the importance of accountability and active participation in Senate proceedings. Chief Theko’s call for the involvement of key stakeholders is seen as an effort to streamline the Senate’s operations and enhance its ability to deliver on its responsibilities effectively. By calling for a concerted effort to tackle these challenges, he is pushing for a more responsive and productive Senate that can better serve the needs of the people.
