Delegations and Member States from the World Health Organization (WHO) regions have acknowledged significant progress in the global effort to defeat meningitis by 2030. This recognition came during the 156th session of the WHO Executive Board, where representatives praised the effectiveness of the evidence-based, practical, and scalable road map designed to eliminate the disease.
According to a WHO statement, delegations emphasized the strong commitment of national leaders, partners, civil society organizations, and WHO teams at all levels in driving this initiative forward. The road map has been widely recognized as a crucial tool in accelerating efforts to prevent and control meningitis worldwide.
Member States reaffirmed their dedication to achieving the 2030 goal, noting the broader benefits of the programme. They highlighted that the strategy not only aims to eliminate meningitis but also strengthens primary health care, health systems, and overall health security. Additionally, the initiative contributes to the success of the Immunization Agenda 2030, enhances advocacy for the rights of persons with disabilities, and complements other global health strategies targeting neurological disorders, sepsis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, and HIV.
With continued commitment and collaboration, WHO and its partners remain optimistic that meningitis can be defeated by 2030, ensuring improved health outcomes and a stronger global health system.
