Thoteng High School: A School Without Students

Thoteng High School stands as an unusual case in the education system—a school with no students. While teachers report to work daily, they return home without teaching a single lesson.

The school’s principal, Ms. Nthabiseng Tabote, declined to comment on the matter, stating, “No comment.”

However, Deputy Education District Manager Mapepe Rakotje confirmed that the authorities are aware of the situation, describing it as both concerning and unprecedented.

“As the department, we are aware of this matter. We also visited the school to see for ourselves,” he said.

Rakotje further explained that one of the key reasons behind the absence of students is the strained relationship between teachers and the local community. It has been reported that this tension has led parents to refuse to enroll their children at Thoteng High School.

The situation raises serious concerns about the future of the school, the fate of the teachers, and the education of children in the area. While the government and relevant stakeholders are aware of the issue, it remains to be seen what steps will be taken to resolve it and restore learning at Thoteng High School.
