Ministry of Agriculture to Host Market Day to Support Local Farmers

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Nutrition, through the Department of Marketing, is set to host a Market Day at the Agricultural Show Ground on March 6. The event aims to provide local farmers with an opportunity to showcase their agricultural products while fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing within the farming community.

Speaking in an interview, District Extension Officer Mr. Polao Tlali explained that the event will feature a wide variety of products, including vegetables, fruits, handicrafts, and animal products such as different types of fodder. He emphasized that Market Day is not only about selling products but also about creating a platform for farmers to exchange ideas on sustainable farming practices, especially in the face of climate change.

Mr. Tlali noted that despite the challenges posed by changing weather patterns, food production remains essential for community survival. He further highlighted the importance of strengthening local markets so that consumers can access fresh agricultural products without the added burden of traveling to other districts.

Market Day is expected to bring together farmers, consumers, and stakeholders in the agricultural sector, enhancing economic opportunities and strengthening food security efforts. By promoting local produce, the initiative seeks to create a more self-sufficient and resilient agricultural system in the country.
