Lesotho’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Nts’iuoa Sekete, has outlined significant expectations for the upcoming Ministerial Session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council, scheduled for 12–13 February 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In a statement, Ambassador Sekete described the two-day meeting as an essential platform for advancing Africa’s agenda on peace, economic integration, and sustainable development. She emphasized that the session will address a wide range of issues aimed at driving the continent toward greater unity and progress.
Key topics on the agenda include digital transformation, gender equality, human rights, food security, and electoral reforms. These issues, she noted, are vital for addressing the pressing challenges facing the continent and ensuring inclusive growth.
Ambassador Sekete highlighted the importance of fostering economic integration, improving infrastructure, and enhancing access to social services. Additionally, discussions on health and wellbeing are expected to focus on strengthening Africa’s healthcare systems and ensuring resilience against future pandemics.
The Ministerial Session will also provide an opportunity for member states to adopt decisions that will shape the African Union’s strategies in addressing these critical areas. Ambassador Sekete expressed confidence that the meeting will yield impactful outcomes that will contribute to the continent’s stability and prosperity.
The AU Executive Council session serves as a preparatory platform for the AU Assembly, where heads of state and government will deliberate on the adopted recommendations and strategies. The outcomes of the session are anticipated to play a pivotal role in shaping Africa’s future development trajectory.
