Advocate Brigadier Mantso Sello Appointed DCEO Director General on Secondment from LDF

Advocate Brigadier Mantso Sello, the newly appointed Director General of the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO) in Lesotho, is reportedly serving in this role on secondment. This clarification was provided by the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) Spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Sakeng Lekola.

Lieutenant Colonel Lekola explained that the arrangement is consistent with the provisions of the Lesotho Defence Force Act 4 of 1996. According to Section 7(3) of the Act, the Minister has the authority to attach or second any member of the LDF to the public service under agreed terms and conditions. This legal framework allows for Advocate Brigadier Sello’s temporary transfer to the DCEO while maintaining his status as a member of the military.

“He is still a member of the LDF,” emphasized Lieutenant Colonel Lekola, adding that once Advocate Brigadier Sello’s term as Director General ends, he will return to his duties within the army. In the meantime, an officer has been designated to manage his responsibilities within the LDF to ensure continuity.

Advocate Brigadier Sello’s appointment comes at a critical time for the DCEO, which plays a key role in combating corruption and economic crimes in Lesotho. His secondment reflects a strategic collaboration between the military and public service, leveraging his expertise to strengthen the fight against corruption.
