Tele Area Block Farming Yields 20 Tonnes of Wheat Grain
The ongoing wheat harvest at the Tele Agricultural Resource Centre has delivered a bumper yield of at least 20 tonnes of wheat grain. This impressive output, which is equivalent to 410 bags of 50 kg grain, has been garnered from over 30 hectares of individual block farming. The harvesting process, carried out using a combine harvester from the Department of Agriculture, Food Security, and Nutrition, marks a significant achievement for the Tele area farming community.
In an interview with the Agency, District Agricultural Officer (DAO) Mr. Phamotse Maboee shared that the yield from the Tele block farming project will benefit 27 field owners in the area. Each field owner is set to receive a 30% share of the harvest from their respective fields. This arrangement is part of the ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and ensure that the benefits of farming initiatives are equitably distributed among local farmers.
The successful wheat harvest at the Tele Agricultural Resource Centre highlights the potential of block farming as a viable agricultural model. With the assistance of modern farming equipment like the combine harvester, the productivity of the land has been significantly boosted, ensuring that the local farmers have access to higher yields and improved food security.
This milestone not only serves as a testament to the hard work of the farmers involved but also underscores the importance of collaboration between local farmers and agricultural departments in fostering food security and economic growth. As the harvest continues, the Tele area is poised to see lasting benefits, with increased production and a positive impact on the livelihoods of the community.
