NUL Students to Hold Peaceful March to Present Concerns to National Assembly Speaker
The National University of Lesotho (NUL) will hold a peaceful march on Friday, January 31, to deliver a letter of concerns to the Speaker of the National Assembly. This initiative was announced by the Students Representative Council (SRC) President, Mr. Tumo Tsanyane.
Speaking about the march, Tsanyane emphasized that its purpose is to present solutions to the country’s pressing issues, particularly those affecting the youth, whether they choose to remain silent or act.
A Call for Constructive Engagement
Unlike previous protests, Tsanyane highlighted that this march will focus on fostering dialogue and development. “This time, it is different because we are addressing issues that have the potential to bring about positive change in the country,” he explained.
Key Issues to Be Addressed
One of the primary concerns to be raised is the reduction of the retirement age. According to Tsanyane, this measure could help tackle the high rate of youth unemployment in Lesotho by creating opportunities for young people to enter the workforce.
The SRC President also called on all Members of the National Assembly to set aside political affiliations and prioritize solutions that promote national development.
A Peaceful Approach
Tsanyane assured the public that the march will be peaceful, underscoring the importance of maintaining order while advocating for meaningful change.
The planned demonstration reflects the growing concerns among Lesotho’s youth about the country’s socio-economic challenges and their determination to actively contribute to solutions.
The march is expected to attract significant attention as students call for collaboration among policymakers to address issues that impact the country’s future.
