Mrs. Setheha Toloane Wins LHDA TBM Naming Competition with “Khoiti Ea Ngoahakholo Peli”
Mrs. Setheha Toloane has been awarded M50,000.00 by the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) after her submission, Khoiti Ea Ngoahakholo Peli, won the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) naming competition.
The name was officially unveiled during the ceremony marking the start of boring for the Polihali Transfer Tunnel under Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP). Representing the Prime Minister at the event, Minister of Local Government, Chieftainship, and Police, Mr. Lebona Lephema, praised the initiative and its impact on the local community.
Speaking at the Ha Bereng TBM construction site, Mr. Lephema highlighted the transformative effects of the project on residents’ lives. He acknowledged that while fields and rangelands once used by the community are now part of the project, the government is committed to ensuring that residents benefit from the development.
“The government has a responsibility to see that the community benefits from this project and that their children have access to education,” Mr. Lephema said.
He further encouraged residents to participate in the skills transfer programs offered by the project, emphasizing the importance of acquiring skills that can be used even after the project’s completion.
The Polihali Transfer Tunnel is a key component of the LHWP Phase II, which aims to enhance water delivery and support sustainable development in Lesotho. Mrs. Toloane’s winning name, Khoiti Ea Ngoahakholo Peli, reflects the significance of the initiative and its connection to local heritage and progress.
