On Wednesday, the Minister of Education and Training (MoET), Professor Ntoi Rapapa, spearheaded the official launch of a new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Lab in Maseru. This initiative, backed by Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) and supported by STEMpower Africa, is aimed at strengthening the foundation of maths and science education for university students in Lesotho.
The STEM Lab launch marks an important step toward enhancing the country’s focus on science and technology, equipping students with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly tech-driven world. The collaboration between LUCT and STEMpower Africa is designed to create an innovative learning environment that supports the academic growth and development of future scientists, engineers, and technology experts in Lesotho.
In his address during the launch, Minister Rapapa emphasized the significance of the new facility in fostering innovation. “Today marks a significant milestone in the evolving world of technology. The establishment of this STEM Lab is essential for the growth and innovation of our nation,” he said.
Minister Rapapa went on to highlight that the lab is a vital resource that will provide hands-on learning experiences, ensuring that students are not only taught theoretical knowledge but also gain practical skills that are critical in today’s competitive global economy. The lab’s resources will enable students to explore various disciplines within STEM, including mathematics, engineering, and technology, in an engaging and interactive environment.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to invest in education and support the development of skilled professionals who can drive progress in various sectors of the economy. By strengthening STEM education, Lesotho is positioning itself to meet the demands of the future workforce, particularly in industries that are central to technological and infrastructural advancement.
