IEC Reports Smooth Progress in Re-registration Process in Lesotho

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of Lesotho has confirmed that the re-registration process launched in August 2024 is running smoothly. With a focus on ensuring that all eligible citizens are registered for the upcoming elections, the IEC has reported significant participation.

According to a recent publication by the IEC, nearly 400,000 Basotho have actively engaged in the re-registration process. This figure highlights a positive response from the population, showing a strong desire to participate in the electoral process.

In addition to the traditional method of registration at local community offices, the IEC has introduced an online registration option to increase accessibility. Citizens can now conveniently register from the comfort of their homes using their national identity documents (IDs). This initiative aims to make the process more efficient and inclusive, particularly for those who may face challenges in accessing physical registration stations.

The IEC has stationed officers throughout communities to assist individuals with the registration process. These officers are available to help those who require assistance, ensuring that no one is left behind.

The commission’s efforts to streamline the re-registration process through both physical and online platforms reflect a commitment to enhancing the electoral experience for all citizens. As the process continues, the IEC remains dedicated to ensuring a fair and transparent election in Lesotho.
