DPE Highlights the Importance of Unity Among Youth in Solving Community Issues

The Development for Peace Education (DPE) continues to make strides in empowering the youth in Lesotho, particularly at the district level, by emphasizing the power of unity in addressing issues that affect their communities. This message was delivered by Mrs. Melida Kuape, the Peace Education Officer at DPE, during an interview with the Agency.

Mrs. Kuape shared her insights following a one-day dialogue session between DPE and various youth organizations within the district. She highlighted that the youth at the district level have a strong understanding of how unity can serve as a powerful tool in addressing the challenges they face. “When the youth come together, they can better identify solutions and take collective action to address the issues that directly impact their lives,” said Mrs. Kuape.

DPE is a key partner in the Youth Power Hub program, which is funded by UNICEF. The initiative is designed to help young people establish their own organizations, giving them a platform to actively participate in decision-making processes. According to Mrs. Kuape, the program aims to equip youth with the skills and resources needed to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.

The Youth Power Hub serves as a vital tool in fostering leadership, promoting civic engagement, and encouraging social responsibility among the youth. By providing young people with the opportunity to form and lead their own organizations, DPE and its partners hope to create a generation of young leaders who are actively involved in shaping the future of their country.

Mrs. Kuape’s remarks emphasize the significant role that youth play in building peace and creating sustainable solutions to the challenges faced by their communities. With programs like the Youth Power Hub, young people in Lesotho are being given the tools to make a lasting impact.
