Thousands Benefit from Food Distribution in Mokhotlong District

At least 2,870 individuals from four constituencies in Mokhotlong District recently received food aid as part of a relief effort to combat hunger among vulnerable households. The initiative was spearheaded by the District Disaster Management Office and aimed at alleviating food insecurity in the area.

According to Mr. Sekake Thamae, the District Disaster Management Officer, the distribution served as a much-needed intervention for households struggling with hunger. The recipients included participants of the Tsoha u Iketsetse project, a government-supported initiative designed to empower communities.

“This distribution was not just about providing food but also about recognizing the efforts of those who participated in the Tsoha u Iketsetse project, which has been instrumental in making a difference in the lives of these individuals,” said Mr. Thamae.

The Tsoha u Iketsetse project, conducted as a cash-for-work program, encouraged participants to engage in activities that benefited their communities while earning financial support. This dual-purpose approach aimed to address immediate needs while fostering long-term self-reliance.

The relief effort underscores the Lesotho government’s commitment to mitigating hunger and improving livelihoods in vulnerable communities. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing its importance in helping them meet basic needs during challenging times.

This food distribution marks another step in the ongoing fight against poverty and food insecurity in Mokhotlong and beyond, reinforcing the role of community-driven projects in building resilience.
