Minister Moorosi Advocates for Cyber Security Advancement

The Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MICSTI), Ms. Nthati Moorosi, underscored the urgency of bolstering cyber security in Lesotho during a high-level meeting held in Maseru on Wednesday.

The one-day meeting, attended by various stakeholders, focused on educating the public, safeguarding digital rights, and expediting the passage of the Cyber Security Bill currently under review by parliamentary committees.

Addressing a Critical Gap

In her opening remarks, Minister Moorosi emphasized the importance of the Cyber Security Bill, describing it as “long overdue.” She called for open and inclusive dialogue to address the challenges posed by today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.

“Our government is committed to advancing the digital economy. However, we must ensure that our citizens are protected and their rights upheld in the digital space,” she said.

Building a Secure Digital Economy

The Minister highlighted the significant role of cyber security in driving economic development. As Lesotho continues to embrace online platforms for commerce, education, and communication, robust laws and policies are essential to mitigate risks and foster growth.

“We are not only looking to fast-track the law but also to ensure that our digital transformation aligns with economic growth and resilience,” she added.

Collaboration and Next Steps

The meeting served as a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas, identify challenges, and propose solutions for improving cyber security in the country. Participants agreed on the need for swift action to enact the Cyber Security Bill while promoting public awareness about digital safety.

As Lesotho moves closer to finalizing its cyber security framework, the commitment to safeguarding its digital space remains a top priority. Through collaboration and decisive action, the nation aims to secure its place in the global digital economy.
