Makopo Councilor to Host Athletic Sports Event for Elderly Residents
This coming Sunday, Councilor Seetsanyana Moleko of Makopo will host an athletic sports event for elderly residents from villages within his council. The initiative aims to promote healthy living and bring joy to senior citizens, emphasizing the importance of physical activity in combating chronic illnesses.
Speaking to the Lesotho News Agency, Councilor Moleko highlighted the unique challenges faced by elderly community members, many of whom play a crucial role in raising grandchildren in the absence of their parents.
“I have planned four categories, two for women and two for men, targeting participants aged 60 to 69. This age group is particularly vulnerable to chronic illnesses, so I want to show them the importance of a healthy lifestyle through this event,” Moleko explained.
The day’s activities will begin with breakfast provided to all participants. After the athletic events, lunch will be served as part of the councilor’s commitment to creating a wholesome experience for the elderly. Winners from each category will receive monetary prizes, with exact amounts yet to be finalized.
Councilor Moleko’s initiative reflects an appreciation of the vital role elderly residents play in the community, as well as a commitment to improving their overall well-being. This event is expected to not only inspire healthy habits but also bring the community together in celebrating its senior citizens.
The athletic sports event is anticipated to be a memorable day for the elderly participants, offering both physical activity and the joy of fellowship.
