Lesotho’s Minister of Public Works and Transport Meets with World Bank Mission to Discuss LITTL Project
Earlier this week, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Matjato Moteane, held an important meeting with the World Bank Mission, led by the recently appointed World Bank Country Representative for Lesotho, Ms. Dinara Djoldosheva. The meeting, which took place at the Ministry’s Headquarters, was aimed at briefing the mission on the progress of the Lesotho Integrated Transport, Trade, and Logistics Project (LITTL).
The LITTL Project is a key initiative designed to improve climate-resilient regional connectivity along the Katse to Thaba-Tseka Road corridor. In addition to enhancing the road infrastructure, the project also focuses on improving logistics efficiency and border processes in Maseru, Ficksburg, and Qacha’s Nek. The goal is to facilitate smoother trade and transport flows, while ensuring that the infrastructure is resilient to the challenges posed by climate change.
During the meeting, Minister Moteane reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the successful implementation of the LITTL Project. He emphasized the critical role that the road sector plays in the country’s national development and economic growth. The Minister also expressed his sincere gratitude for the continued support from the World Bank, which has been instrumental in advancing this crucial project.
The LITTL Project is expected to have far-reaching benefits, not only improving transportation and trade across the region but also contributing to the overall development of Lesotho by boosting regional integration and promoting economic growth. By improving road infrastructure and logistics, the project will enhance the movement of goods and people, benefiting both local communities and regional trade.
The collaboration between the government of Lesotho and the World Bank underlines the importance of international partnerships in achieving sustainable development goals, particularly in areas that impact national and regional growth. The meeting marked a significant step forward in ensuring the successful execution of the LITTL Project, as both parties work together to overcome challenges and bring the vision of improved infrastructure and enhanced connectivity to fruition.
