Lesotho Celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities with Life-Changing Donations

In a heartwarming ceremony marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Ministry of Gender, Youth, and Social Development transformed lives by providing assistive devices to five individuals. The event, held in collaboration with the Lesotho National Federation of Organisations of the Disabled (LNFOD), showcased the nation’s commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.

Her Majesty Queen ’Masenate Mohato Seeiso, patron of LNFOD, graced the occasion and personally handed over the devices, which included a wheelchair, prosthetic limbs, crutches, and white canes. The Minister of Gender, Youth, and Social Development joined Her Majesty in presenting these essential items, symbolizing the government’s dedication to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities.

Tears of Joy and Resilience

The event was marked by deep emotion, as beneficiaries expressed gratitude through tears of joy. Attendees celebrated with ululations and applause, creating an atmosphere of unity and shared purpose.

One of the recipients, a 16-year-old Grade 10 student from Ha Sekake, shared her inspiring journey. She described the daily challenges she faced due to her disability and how the new assistive device would enable her to pursue her dreams more effectively. “This gift is more than just a device—it’s a new chapter in my life,” she said. Her story resonated with many in the audience, highlighting the transformative power of support and community.
