Kolonyama MP Hosts Christmas Soccer Tournament to Keep Youth Engaged

In an effort to keep youth off the streets and away from criminal activities during the festive season, the Member of Parliament for Kolonyama constituency, Mr. Lempe Mahlathini, has organized a Christmas soccer tournament. The tournament began on December 14 and will conclude on December 24.

In an interview, Mr. Mahlathini emphasized the importance of keeping young people engaged during the Christmas holidays. “When youth are idle, they often turn to undesirable activities, including crime. The soccer tournament is a way to keep them busy and productive during this period,” he said.

The tournament spans six zones within the Kolonyama constituency, namely Ha Matala, Ha Moramang, Maqasane, Fobane, Ha Makhaketsa, and Ha Likariki. Teams from these areas are competing for the championship, fostering not only healthy competition but also community unity and sportsmanship.

Mr. Mahlathini highlighted that such initiatives are vital for youth development, as they encourage teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness while providing a positive alternative to idleness. “Sports have a unique way of bringing people together and building character, especially among the youth,” he added.

The Christmas soccer tournament has been well received by the community, with local residents showing support for the event. It also serves as an opportunity for young, talented players to showcase their skills, potentially paving the way for future opportunities in sports.

As the tournament progresses, anticipation is building for the final match on December 24, where the winning team will be crowned champions. For the youth in Kolonyama, this initiative offers not only entertainment but also a meaningful way to celebrate the festive season.
