Construction of Tsunyane Bridge in Roma Set to Begin in Next Financial Year

The long-awaited construction of the Tsunyane Bridge in Roma is set to commence in the next financial year, as confirmed by community councillor Sipho Ramalitse. The announcement comes after several setbacks since the old bridge collapsed due to heavy rains in 2017, causing significant disruption to the community’s transportation routes.

In an interview with the Agency on Friday, Mr. Ramalitse explained that the project had faced numerous delays over the years. Originally, construction was slated to begin earlier this year; however, the funds initially allocated for the project were redirected to another initiative in Rothe. Unfortunately, the Rothe project soon ran out of funds, and the equipment that had been brought to Roma for the bridge construction was taken back, halting progress.

“It had to stop because the Rothe project ran out of funds, and all the equipment that was brought here had to be taken back. That is why we had to stop,” Ramalitse stated. The ongoing delays have been frustrating for locals, who have been relying on temporary solutions while awaiting the new bridge.

The collapse of the previous structure had left a significant gap in the community’s infrastructure, making travel to and from Roma more difficult. As a result, the construction of a new Tsunyane Bridge has been eagerly anticipated, as it will restore vital access for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Despite the setbacks, there is hope that with the allocation of new funding in the next financial year, work on the bridge will finally begin and be completed without further delays. Local officials are optimistic that the new infrastructure will boost connectivity in the region and contribute to the area’s long-term development.
