Tension Brews Over Prolonged Closure of Precious English Medium Primary School

Tension reached a boiling point on Monday when the Ministry of Education and Training District Education Manager, Mr. Lebenya Mothibeli, met with representatives from the Precious English Medium Primary School’s parent group. The meeting was held in response to a petition submitted to the District Administrator, Mr. Habofanoe Pheku, demanding answers about the indefinite closure of the school.

The two-hour meeting focused on parents’ growing concerns about their children’s education, as they are left with limited options. With the school closed for an extended period, many parents are forced to send their children to distant schools or make uncomfortable arrangements, which has become an unsustainable situation.

The closure has been a source of frustration for parents, who feel that their children’s education is being disrupted without any clear explanation. During the meeting, Mr. Tumelo Sehlabo, a representative of the parents, explained that they sought dialogue with Mr. Mothibeli to understand why the school, which had previously provided quality education, has not been allowed to reopen.

Parents are calling for immediate action to resolve the issue and ensure that their children are able to resume their education in a stable and familiar environment. They are also demanding transparency from the Ministry of Education and Training about the reasons behind the closure and the steps being taken to address the situation.

The meeting highlighted the urgency of finding a resolution, as parents grow increasingly concerned about the long-term impact on their children’s education. The lack of educational options in the area has left them with few alternatives, and many are desperate for clarity on when the school will reopen and how their children’s learning will be ensured in the interim.

As the situation unfolds, the hope is that both the Ministry of Education and Training and the parent group will work together to find a solution that puts the children’s education first and restores the community’s confidence in the education system.
