Ms. Motheba Mahase Urges Ha Thube Lead Farmers to Treat Agriculture as a Serious Profession
Ms. Motheba Mahase, the Area Technical Officer for Crops at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Nutrition (MAFSN) in Lesotho, has called on Ha Thube lead farmers to treat agriculture with the seriousness it deserves. Speaking at a week-long capacity-building initiative hosted by the Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS), Ms. Mahase emphasized that farming is not just a livelihood but a full-time job that requires commitment, dedication, and hard work.
The initiative, which was supported by MAFSN, was designed to enhance local farming practices and promote better nutrition within the community. By equipping farmers with the skills and knowledge to improve their agricultural techniques, the program seeks to contribute to the growth of the sector and ultimately improve food security in Lesotho.
In her address, Ms. Mahase pointed out that success in farming, like any other profession, does not come without effort. She stressed the importance of farmers taking their roles seriously, cultivating discipline, and investing the time and energy required to yield positive results. “Farming is not a hobby or a side project; it is a job, and like any profession, it demands dedication and hard work,” she said.
The capacity-building workshop, which brought together lead farmers from Ha Thube, covered a range of topics aimed at improving farming practices. These included soil management, pest control, crop rotation, and modern farming techniques that can increase productivity and sustainability. Additionally, the initiative emphasized the importance of nutrition, encouraging farmers to grow more diverse crops to improve the health of their families and communities.
Ms. Mahase also underscored the role of agriculture in contributing to the nation’s food security and economic growth. She reiterated that when farmers take agriculture seriously and apply best practices, they not only improve their own livelihoods but also contribute to the broader goals of food security and economic development for the country.
The collaboration between the Lesotho Red Cross Society and MAFSN is an important step towards strengthening the agricultural sector in Lesotho, and Ms. Mahase’s message serves as a reminder of the responsibility farmers have to treat their work as an essential profession for the nation’s prosperity.
Ms. Mahase’s call to action serves as a crucial reminder to Ha Thube lead farmers and the broader agricultural community in Lesotho that farming, when approached with the seriousness it deserves, can be a powerful tool for improving both personal and national well-being. Through continued dedication and skill-building, farmers can help pave the way for a more food-secure and prosperous future.
