Mokhotlong Acting District Electoral Officer Encourages Voter Re-registration
The Acting District Electoral Officer for Mokhotlong, Mrs. ‘Matoka Motloli, has called on electors to re-register with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to ensure the maintenance of an accurate and clean voter’s list. Mrs. Motloli made these remarks during the official launch of the re-registration process held at the IEC district office on Friday.
In her brief address, Mrs. Motloli explained that the re-registration initiative is crucial for updating and refining the voters list ahead of future elections. She highlighted that this effort seeks to address challenges encountered in previous registration periods, such as double registrations, which can compromise the integrity of the electoral process.
The event kicked off with a sensitization walk through the community, beginning at Ntlholohetsane Lekhalong, passing through the hospital area, and concluding back at the IEC office. The walk was part of a broader public awareness campaign to engage the community and inform them of the importance of re-registration.
“The purpose of this re-registration is to strengthen the integrity of the voters list and ensure that every eligible voter is properly accounted for,” Mrs. Motloli said. “By re-registering, we aim to prevent issues like double registration and ensure that the list is as accurate as possible for the upcoming elections.”
Mrs. Motloli further emphasized that the initiative is part of a larger effort to improve pre-registration processes and to better prepare the IEC for future elections. She stressed that the accuracy of the voters list is critical not only for the smooth running of elections but also for ensuring that every citizen’s vote is counted and represented correctly.
Residents were urged to visit their local IEC office to re-register and confirm their voter details. The re-registration process is expected to continue in the coming weeks, with further efforts to engage the public and increase awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean and accurate voter roll.
Mrs. Motloli’s call for re-registration has been met with positive response from the community, with many seeing it as a necessary step toward ensuring a fair and transparent electoral system in Mokhotlong. The IEC is hopeful that the re-registration drive will help build a stronger foundation for future elections, reflecting the true will of the people.
