Minister Limpho Tau Calls for Multi-Sectoral Efforts in Countering Terrorism
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s office, Mr. Limpho Tau, has called for a collaborative and proactive approach in tackling terrorism, emphasizing the importance of multi-sectoral efforts. This call was made during the official opening of a three-day workshop aimed at developing a National Action Plan on Counter Terrorism Strategy, which commenced on Tuesday in Maseru.
In his opening remarks, Minister Tau highlighted the significance of operationalizing a robust counter-terrorism strategy to ensure national security. He noted that this workshop would serve as an invaluable opportunity for key security stakeholders to creatively explore and formulate actionable measures for the strategy’s implementation.
“This is the first strategy of its kind that is being put in place when the nation is commemorating 200 years marking the existence of the nation,” the Minister stated, underscoring the historic moment for the country as it moves forward with proactive security measures.
While Minister Tau acknowledged that terrorism has not posed the same level of threat in Lesotho as seen in some other African nations, he stressed that it is crucial to prioritize preventive measures. He warned that with global security challenges continuously evolving, it was imperative for the country to be prepared, underscoring the necessity of addressing potential risks before they manifest.
The three-day workshop, gathering experts and security leaders, marks a crucial step in Lesotho’s commitment to strengthening its security infrastructure and ensuring a safer environment for its citizens.
