Likuena Arrive in Morocco for Crucial AFCON Qualifier Against Atlas Lions

The Lesotho senior national football team, Likuena, has arrived in Oujda, Morocco, ahead of their final match in the TotalEnergies 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers. The team is set to face Morocco’s formidable Atlas Lions at the Honneur Stadium on Monday evening.

According to Mikia Kalati, Media and Communications Manager for the Lesotho Football Association (LEFA), the team heads into the match with renewed confidence following their recent 1-0 victory over the Central African Republic (CAR). The win, secured at the Toyota Stadium, came thanks to a decisive goal from striker Neo Mokhachane, boosting the team’s morale as they prepare for their final test in the qualifiers.

Kalati highlighted the significance of the upcoming fixture, recalling the last encounter between the two sides. In September, during the previous round of qualifiers held in Agadir, Morocco managed a dramatic 1-0 victory over Likuena. The match was fiercely contested, with Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz scoring a last-minute goal in the 93rd minute to clinch a win for the Atlas Lions. The narrow defeat left Likuena determined to show their resilience and competitiveness as they return to Moroccan soil.

This final game is seen as both a challenge and an opportunity for Likuena to make a statement against a strong Moroccan side that has shown prowess on both regional and international stages. The team, supported by a motivated coaching staff and buoyed by their recent victory, hopes to end their AFCON qualifying campaign on a high note.

Fans back home in Lesotho and supporters across the continent are eagerly awaiting the outcome, with anticipation building over whether Likuena can upset the Atlas Lions and finish their qualifiers with a memorable performance. The match at the Honneur Stadium promises to be an exciting encounter as both teams vie for a strong finish in their journey toward AFCON 2025.
