Lesotho Communications Authority Hosts Capacity Building Workshop for Postal and Courier Services Sector

The Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) recently hosted a two-day capacity-building workshop focused on regulatory development programs and national stakeholder engagement in the postal and courier services sector. The event, which took place in Maseru starting Tuesday, aimed to bring together representatives from various organizations to discuss and advance the regulatory frameworks that govern the postal sector in Lesotho and beyond.

In his opening remarks, the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Lesotho Communications Authority, Advocate Thato Ponya, highlighted the importance of the workshop in facilitating discussions that would enable stakeholders to contribute towards the advancement of regulatory frameworks within the postal sector. “This gathering provides a platform for various organizations to collaborate and engage in meaningful discussions that help in the evolution of postal sector regulations across different jurisdictions,” said Advocate Ponya.

The workshop’s agenda focused on several key topics, including the foundational theories of postal sector regulation, the socio-economic impacts of postal services, and the complexities surrounding universal service obligations. Advocate Ponya emphasized that a thorough understanding of these issues is critical for shaping effective policies that ensure equitable access to postal services for all segments of society.

He further stated that the discussions would delve into the necessity of these regulatory frameworks, aiming to explore how the postal sector can be better regulated to serve the needs of the population. “As we engage in this dialogue, we hope to unravel the complexities of universal service obligations and explore regulatory frameworks that ensure equitable access to postal services,” he said, stressing the importance of collaborations and the shared expertise of all participants.

The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to engage with experts, exchange ideas, and work towards the development of policies that can enhance the delivery of postal and courier services in Lesotho. It also highlighted the need for continuous development in the sector to adapt to emerging trends and technological advancements that impact the way postal services are delivered.

The LCA’s initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen the regulatory environment for postal and courier services in Lesotho, ensuring that the sector continues to contribute positively to the country’s socio-economic development. Through this workshop, the LCA hopes to foster a more collaborative and informed approach to postal sector regulation, enabling the delivery of services that meet the needs of all Basotho citizens.
