IEC Launches National Voter Re-registration Campaign in Qacha’s Nek

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) kicked off its highly anticipated national voter re-registration campaign in Qacha’s Nek on Friday, with a vibrant and community-centered one-day event. The initiative aimed to ensure all eligible citizens were registered to vote ahead of upcoming elections, with participation requiring only a National Identity document.

The day’s events began with a lively community fun walk from Lifofaneng to the district taxi rank. This spirited procession was marked by a display of cultural pride, as participants sported traditional Mokorotlo hats, showcasing the region’s heritage and bringing a sense of unity and excitement to the occasion.

Local businesses and organizations, including Post Bank, Alliance, Econet, and Sentebale, participated in the festivities by setting up service tents to provide support and engage with the community. Their presence added to the celebratory atmosphere, offering an opportunity for attendees to access services while enjoying the entertainment.

The IEC staff, dressed in regalia adorned with re-registration messages, were at the heart of the campaign. They actively engaged with the public, distributing IEC-branded items such as pens, rulers, and sunhats to newly registered voters. These items served as reminders of the importance of voter participation and the crucial role that each individual plays in shaping the nation’s future.

The event was not just about registering voters; it was a celebration of national pride, community involvement, and the shared goal of strengthening democracy in Lesotho. With a successful start to the national re-registration campaign, the IEC is set to continue its efforts in other regions, ensuring that every eligible voter is given the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
